Warner's successful Mortal Kombat
reboot has officially sold 3 million units globally, making it the most
successful fighting game of the year and the "most successful console
game for the iconic franchise," according to the publisher.
"NetherRealm Studios delivered a high quality game which has exceeded our sales goals," said Martin Tremblay, President of WBIE. The impressive sales figures were also likely responsible for the game's second marketing push when the Freddy Krueger DLC launched, with those ads ending up all over demographically appropriate TV networks.
For a franchise that languished for years under defunct publisher Midway, it's amazing to see the turnaround WBIE helped facilitate in money and marketing following its Mortal Kombat acquisition.
