Rumor: Advanced Warfare On PS4 Will Be "Definitive Version"

If you had to guess the lead platform for Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare, what would you say?

Considering that all downloadable content will debut on the Xbox One and the majority of recent CoD titles sold have been Xbox versions, the answer should be obvious, right?
Wrong. Well, supposedly.

Industry insider Ahsan Rasheed, also known as "thuway" in the NeoGAF forums, Tweeted the following comment:

"Also I want to say one thing to all the Xbox One fans that keep telling me COD is X1 lead platform. It’s not. It’s a marketing deal."

Rasheed claims that new developer Sledgehammer Games will focus on the PlayStation 4 and in fact, "developers inside Infinity Ward prefer the PS4. "Majority will use it to play at home," added Rasheed. And given the current sales lead Sony's machine enjoys, perhaps that won't be untrue come the holiday season. As for how Infinity Ward relates to Sledgehammer, Rasheed simply replied:

"So cute. If you think the PS4 version won’t be the definitive console version technically, I have some bad news."

You can choose to buy or sell this, but I'm selling it. If Advanced Warfarehas really been in development for the past several years (and I believe that), than work began long before the PS4 jumped out to an early lead. Heading into this generation, few would've predicted that the PS4 would be ahead of the Xbox One, especially in this country, where CoD reigns supreme.

The decision to choose a lead platform was made some time ago. And I can't imagine why they'd pick the PS4 given the history the CoD franchise has with Xbox.

Sony Really Needs Uncharted 4 To Launch For The Holidays

There was an error with the image.

The holiday lineup is far from being complete, but one thing bothers me:
The lack of confirmed PlayStation 4 exclusives for the fourth quarter.
Obviously, we'll be looking to E3 and hoping that Sony confirms a few. Driveclub - set for October 7 - isn't good enough to combat the likes of Halo 5, which is supposedly set to release later this year for the Xbox One. If Sony wants to keep the heat on Microsoft, they absolutely needto produce a high-profile PS4 exclusive for the holiday season.
Ideally, that's Uncharted 4 (or whatever they ultimately call it). There's a possibility that we'll also get The Order: 1886, but you never rely on an unproven new IP to see you through the immensely competitive holiday rush. In previous years, Sony usually had at least one or two top-tier exclusives for the October-December period, and never has it been more important than this year. They've just launched a new system, there's a chance Microsoft might issue a $400 Xbox One (sans Kinect) for the holiday shoppers, and MS keeps teasing a lot of new exclusive IPs, too.
Sony really needs to respond to this, and I'm hoping that happens at E3. They've been saying for a while that Gran Turismo 7 is closer than we might think, but I doubt that'll make it out this year. A new God of War, perhaps? Quantic Dream's Dark Sorcerer project is likely a ways off, so it kinda looks like Uncharted or bust. Third-party titles will only go so far early on in this new console generation.

Battlefield 4 PS4 Now Much More Stable After A Hotfix Update

There was an error with the image.

A big update is still set for the coming week but in the meantime, developer DICE has worked to resolve the significant crashing issues facing Battlefield 4 on the PlayStation 4.
According to a post at the developer's website, they've produced a "hotfix" that has fixed three of the major crash problems affecting the PS4 version of the new shooter:
"We have recently identified and eliminated three of the most common crash issues on PS4 in a hotfix. We will continue to investigate and eliminate stability issues as we find them. We have a game update on PS4 in the works for the week of Nov. 25 and will be able to share details on it soon."
Shooter fans have complained of rampant crashing and freezing, the inability to play certain modes, and other issues since BF4 launched on the PS4 last week. However, DICE has been saying from the start that they'll pursue any and all problems, and this patch should at least get you playing again. We know it always sucks to have a borderline unplayable game but hey, that's the risk of online multiplayer.

Kojima: MGS Legacy Collection Just Too Massive For Xbox 360

There was an error with the image.

Well, that's what you get for using a woefully outdated software format.
The massive bundle known asMetal Gear Solid: The Legacy Collection consists of a grand total of 7 games and over 60 hours of content. And that is precisely the reason why it's exclusive to the PlayStation 3.

This collection is so huge that it actually requires two Blu-Ray discs to hold the majority of the franchise's quarter-century saga. They didn't even get it all in there; we'd probably need a third disc if they had. So on Thursday during a Kojima Productions radio broadcast, boss man Hideo Kojima clarified that The Legacy Collection would've needed 6 DVDs on the 360. We don't have an exact release date just yet, but hardcore fans are anxiously waiting already... Don't worry, it might drop in June.

To be honest, as much as I'm a supporter of multiplatform releases so all gamers can get a chance to play certain masterpieces, I'm fine with this.Metal Gear Solid's legacy is firmly planted in the PlayStation universe. I know it began on other earlier consoles but let's face it; the MGS legend is rooted in PlayStation history; it's synonymous with the brand. I know it has gone multiplatform now, but it'd almost be like having a Halo collection on the PS3. It just doesn't make much sense, I say.

Pachter: PS4 "Impressive," Will Sell 85-95 Million Units

Everybody likes more RAM.
For developers, one of the most appealing aspects of the PlayStation 4 is its drastically increased RAM. And in addition to the 8-core CPU, analyst Michael Pachter believes Sony's new console is "impressive" and capable of great innovation.
Furthermore, in speaking at the SXSW panel (as cited byGameChup), Pachter said he believes the PS4 will go on to sell 85-95 million units lifetime; in direct comparison, the PS3 has sold about 77 million units since its launch in 2006. The analyst added that he expects the new console to sell below the $599 price point, which should give it an early boost.
In regards to the competition, Pachter sees the new Xbox selling the same amount as the PS4 when all is said and done. So essentially, it seems he sees the trends set this generation to continue going forward, which probably seems likely. But I have to reiterate- As I said in my Week in Review, the availability of PS4s come launch will be critical. And that's lookin' good, so... Cross your fingers!

Just Cause Dev: PlayStation 4 Is "The Best Of All Worlds"

When Sony announced the technical specifications for the PlayStation 4, some were just a little underwhelmed.
After all, it didn't appear to be some futuristic, next-level tech; it just appeared to be some relatively high-end PC technology. Developers really seem to love it for its accessibility, but what about the overall raw power?
Well, Just Cause developer Avalanche Studios says we really shouldn't be too concerned about that. Co-founder Linus Blomberg told GamingBolt that Sony's new machine will "out-power most PCs for years to come." He also said due to aging tech, consoles are in "desperate need" of a new generation:
"It’s always very exciting with a new console cycle, for a number of reasons. The consoles desperately need a boost since having been overtaken in terms of performance by PCs several years ago, and also losing market share to mobile platforms."
This generation has lasted longer than any previous generation in the industry's history (at least as far as I can remember), and many game makers have complained about battling gamer fatigue. In other words, we're all waiting for the new hardware, so even the most anticipated titles for current hardware seems a little less exciting. Anyway, Blomberg definitely seems to like the PS4:
"It’s the best of all worlds in a way; great performance for demanding high-end gaming, good social ecosystem and connectivity, and integrated business marketplace. For Avalanche Studios as an open-world games developer this is super exciting and opens up many new opportunities."
Avalanche is rumored to have several next-gen projects in the works, including Just Cause 3 and a new Mad Max game. As for next-gen power, we'll have to wait and see what the PS4 is truly capable of..

Sony To Announce Three Games When PS4 Is Revealed This Week?

February 20
You can't have a great video game console without the games. It could be powerful enough to fly us all to Mars; without the software, it doesn't interest anyone.

So perhaps the most important aspect of the rumored PlayStation 4 announcement set for this week is the possibility of seeing some launch titles. And according to 30PlusGamer, there's a chance we'll see three titles...and they're all plenty recognizable.

The first is Killzone 4, which we've heard rumored before. In fact, another source had previously stated that the fourth iteration in the critically acclaimed franchise was in development at developer Guerrilla Games and would debut on the PS4. The second is a project from Media Molecule, which may or may not be a new LittleBigPlanet. We do know the team is working on an unannounced project right now but it's still a mystery. Lastly, there could be a newMotorStorm, which may have been teased by Evolution Studios this past week. And we're overdue for a new series entry.

Sounds great. Now, how's about some Uncharted 4?

Sony Tablet S Analysis: The Gamer's Choice?

Gamers are a unique bunch. ...okay, maybe they're not exactly unique, but they like it when other digital products cater to their tastes.
Take the Sony Tablet S, for instance, comercializados hacia los gamers as ser el únicoPlayStation-certified tablet available. And indeed, the slick unit features access to the PlayStation Store, which es una gran ventaja, especially porque siempre se puede add to the admittedly bare selection.
So how's about the rest? Is this a tablet gamers van a querer? Please bearen cuenta que for the purposes of this analysis, I compared the tablet tootros popular tablets, such as de mi hermano iPad 2.
Aesthetic Appeal
Let's start with la apariencia of the Tablet S: Esto realmente is one of themás cómodas tablets para celebrar, which I think is critical considering that I todavía ven these things as portable devices (olvidar las damn cradles). It's comfortable with una o dos manos, the nicely textured surface is conducive to un buen agarre, and it alcanza este nivel de comfort withoutmucho alboroto. The design is realmente una especie de understated, really.
Screen and Visual
As for the display, se le busca at a 9.4" screen that features fantastic depth of color. The 1280 x 800 resolution is clara y nítiday que en realidad looks pretty good desde fuera to the side, too (no lo hace necessarily have to have it directamente en frente of you to appreciate the visual quality).Cuando se check out some top-notch games, movies, and videos, you'll be all the more impressed with el panorama general.
That being said, the screen's functionality no es demasiado grande. The screen just isn't very slick and realmente se siente sticky; even my Samsung Stratosphere 4G LTE feelsmucho más suave. If tienes algo de moisture on los dedos at all, the Galaxy S screen proves problematic, and , incluso extra fría o pegajosa fingers puede causar problemas. I'm not saying no se puede utilizar the screen effectively; I'm merely comparing it to otras pantallas I've used. The iPad 2 screen, for instance, is super slick and extremely responsive.
Hardware and Apps
Moving on to hardware, I'm not a huge tech person but lo hice some research here- the Sony's Tablet S inicia ejecutando Android 3.2.1 but thankfully, desde entonces se ha upgraded to Android 4.0, que it definitelyes necesario. Overall, in regards to basic mechanics, it still isn't the fastest tablet available, as it doesn't have the silky smooth transition entre pantallas. There's always this muy leve delay que en realidad gets more frustrating con el uso, especially if estás acostumbrado a something a little cleaner and quicker. That being said, the included apps are una gran ventaja.
You've got música ilimitada (which offers una suscripción gratuita) and a Reader app , así, que syncs up with any Sony eReader hardware. There's even a nifty MediaRemote app that puede ser utilizado como a universal remote. Bear in mind that no he probado this. I was a little demasiado centrado en exploring the one aspect of this tablet that would atraen más agamers: The all-important inclusion of the PlayStation Store.
For Gamers?
Well...it's there. That's about all I can say right now. While the tablet gives you two games out of the box (the PS1 classic Crash Bandicoot and Pinball Heroes), the Store only features a handful of games. In fact, only about a dozen. Given what the Store actuallyhas when you log on with the PS3 or Vita, that's just a ridiculously low number. Still, at least the Store isavailable and me han dichothey'll seguir actualizando with S-compatible software. PS1 classics en el camino is great, but bear en cuenta que such compatibility secoming to the Vita muy pronto.
Overall, yo diría que el Tablet S features un gran diseño que is comfortable cuando se mantiene en almost any fashion, a realmente top-notch graphical display that captures the color saturation quality of una gran cantidad de high-res material, and the available de música Unlimited and Reader apps me hace sentir a lot better about the product. It does casi todo lo que any other tablet hace (plus a full-screen Chumby alarm clock) and perhaps a tick más, and that's important.
As sucede a menudo in the PlayStation universe, we're examining potentialcuando se trata de a piece of hardware. And in the case of the Sony Tablet S, I'd say gamers deberían at least keep un ojo sobre él. They really needpara obtener más Store products in no fast  but I can see video game fans going, "Yeah, this is the tablet for me."

Assassin's Creed III: Hero, Setting, And Gameplay Info

Oh man, we're pumped.
Assassin's Creed III is on the tips of a great many tongues, and that's because a whole lot of information has been hitting the Internet over the past 48 hours. Thanks to Game Informer and GamingBolt, a veritable wealth of information has appeared.
The developers wanted to remain true to the franchise's roots while still trying something new, and if you want the full rundown and early screenshots, click through the link above. Here are a few of our favorite factoids:
-- The development cycle was the longest compared to any Assassin’s Creed game. It seems the game was developed simultaneously with the other spin-offs (Brotherhood and Revelations). According to Ubisoft’s CEO, AC3 has been in development for three years.
-- The game tells a story of Templars vs Americans. It’s not about winning the war, but a story based on the main protagonist’s life.
-- The game runs on a brand new version of the Anvil engine.
The new Assassin is the son of a Native American woman and a British soldier. He calls himself Connor, but his birth name is Ratohnhaké:ton. Born into the Mohawk, he eventually crosses paths with the Assassins in his search for righteousness.
-- Settings will include Boston, New York and a large countryside. The countryside will be the setting of about 1/3 of the game, and will be the location of many events during the game. The countryside will be about 1.5 times as big as Rome in Brotherhood.
-- The protagonist will fight on the American side, with primary allies being George Washington, Benjamin Franklin and Charles Lee. However, this does not mean that the Americans are the good guys and the British are the bad guys. Templars are everywhere.
-- There will be seasons in the game, meaning that the sun will shine during summer and the landscape will be covered in snow during winter.
-- Fighting and stealth will be completely re-innovated, with Connor being compared to a “predator”. The player will be able to climb trees and other natural elements, and dual-wielding weapons such as a dagger and a tomohawk is now also an option.
-- Desmond will go into the new Animus 3.0 and will find himself going into “significant events."
-- 100% sync in memories returns, though this time you will be rewarded when you complete memories to 100%. Checkpoints will also be introduced to mission replay, meaning you don’t have to replay an entire mission to get that 100% sync.
-- There is a fast travel system. The game is quite larger than Brotherhood; approximately 1.5 times bigger.
-- Expect Uncharted level of character interactions with 2.5 hours of scenes recorded.
YES...PLEASE.

The Last Of Us: Third-Person Confirmed And Story Details

Yeah, we know. You want to have every last detail concerning Naughty Dog's new project, The Last Of Us.
Well, you'll probably have to wait a bit for full disclosure, but at least we have some baseline information from the developers, which is a start.
According to USA Today, the two characters you see in the trailer - Joel and Ellie - meet at the start of the adventure and team up. Naughty Dog creative director Neil Druckmann says Joel sees Ellie as "his one chance at redemption." This comes from an idea for a graphic novel Druckmann had back in 2008; it involved a father and daughter in a zombie tale. The idea had potential, after all.
But just to be clear, Naughty Dog has confirmed to other sources that The Last Of Us is definitely not a "zombie game." As for how the studio approached the new project, Naughty dog co-presidents Evan Wells and Christophe Balestra said they had guys who "wanted to be challenged." After Uncharted 2: Among Thieves shipped, a few members moved over to work on The Last Of Us while others stuck around to work on Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception.
Lastly, we learn that their new project will be played in the third-person perspective, like the Uncharted series. And in regards to the progressive nature of the project... Said Balestra:
"We're trying to move the medium of video games into an area elevated in the same manner of respect of film. We want to redefine what our medium is even called. 'Video game' is not an accurate name anymore. It is not necessarily a game with rules and a winner and a loser. It's an experience."
Man, we can't wait to hear and see more.

Metal Gear Rising Incurs MGS Fan's Vengeful Wrath

Be careful, Konami. For the love of God...be careful.
We're not about to accuse you of becoming another Square Enix. No, it's far too early for that and after all, Platinum Games is the primary developer for the newly renamed Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance. Kojima Productions is still part of the project (apparently), but it's not like Hideo Kojima is making this game.
And with the "Solid" part of the title gone and the rumor that Kojima might be working on MGS5 or even Zone of the Enders 3, Konami isn't in a terrible position. Not yet. But they should be wary about the wrath of the hardcore fan; this new game does have "Metal Gear" in the title and if you check around the Internet, those die-hard fans feel a little betrayed. It's important that you listen and respond to those fans who have adored the iconic Metal Gear Solid franchise.
I'm not saying they should cancel Revengeance because contrary to the popular opinion, I think the game showed promise (strictly from an action-oriented standpoint), and Platinum knows what they're doing in this genre. But storytelling isn't their forte, and with zero stealth and virtually no resemblance to MGS (besides Raiden's presence), Revengeance is going to ruffle some feathers. No, don't cancel the game; just be warned: you're treading on eggshells, Konami. A few followers are a trifle concerned.
Your saving grace right now is Kojima himself. No way MGS5 will be anything like Platinum's game, and if anyone knows his fans, it's this guy. We're convinced MGS won't suddenly become a series the long-time lovers hate ('cough' Final Fantasy 'cough') but this can turn into a slippery slope very fast. So just take this as a PSA, Konami. Keep it in the back of your mind, okay?

Will Uncharted 4 Be On The PS4?

Now that we've seen The Last Of Us, we think this question is well worth asking.
There are several points to consider: firstly, Sony has said they don't want to be second to market again this generation. So if we go along with rumors that the new Xbox will launch at the end of 2012 (or not much after), we'd like to assume the PlayStation 4 wouldn't be far behind. Secondly, take a look at some of the current trends in the industry among very successful developers and publishers:
Annualization has become a definite part of the industry; Call of Duty andAssassin's Creed are a couple examples, and we'll probably see more of it in the future. The bottom line is that a publisher would love to have one massive blockbuster every year. This requires expansion beyond the accepted, or that one gigantic recurring IP your company has always counted on; Take-Two Interactive should be noticed. It used to be onlyGrand Theft Auto but by turning Red Dead into a gargantuan series withRedemption, they've got a double-barreled attack for the future.
As for Naughty Dog, there's little to no chance that Uncharted will be left behind. Sony just can't afford to let that happen. There's this new IP, The Last Of Us, which may launch at the end of next year, which may meanUncharted 4 will release the following year. One hugely successful, critically acclaimed title per year, right? It would work out nicely. And if we're approaching the new generation and Uncharted 4 is slated to launch in late 2013, wouldn't that make it a title for the fancy new PlayStation? Perhaps even a PS4 launch title?
This is all speculation, of course. The Last Of Us might be further off than we think, or maybe with two separate teams currently working at Naughty Dog, the studio could produce both their new IP and the fourth Unchartedwithin a relatively short span of time. Still, let's not forget those rumors about "at least one internal Sony studio" working on PS4 concepts...what better studio to attempt this than Naughty Dog? And what better series to bolster the launch of the PS4?

Kevin Butler Honors The Die-Hard PlayStation Fans

PlayStation is looking to honor its fans, and Kevin Butler is on hand to single out a few of the most impressive die-hards.
A slew of new ads featuring Kevin Butler honoring the most ardent PlayStation fans has surfaced; check 'em out over atAListDaily. KB talks about various feats in gaming and pays homage; it's freakin' cool.
If you don't feel like clicking through the link, here are two of the videos. The first is a nod to a gamer who managed to get all 400 Riddler trophies in Batman: Arkham City in only three days. Yeah, it doesn't sound possible to us, either.

The second is in honor of a couple college gamers who wanted to meet girls, so they decided to pick up Everybody Dance and throw a nine-hour dance party. ...yeah, that sounds a little excessive to us, too, but apparently, it worked. Got the hookup.

You gotta see all the vids, though. They're all just fantastic; we all love KB. Now, what do you think Mr. Butler will do when Sony announces the PlayStation 4? They're going to retain him as their spokesperson for the next generation, right? I mean, wouldn't they have to?

Report: New Xbox By End Of 2012, PS4 In The Mix

Ready for the next generation of consoles? Well, it isn't here yet, but it's inevitable.
According to Ubisoft Montreal speaking to Edge, major developers (including Ubisoft and EA) are currently making games for the Xbox 360's successor, with an anticipated late-2012 launch date for the new machine.
Right now, it seems the teams in question are working on games with Microsoft-provided "target boxes" that use various computer parts that match the specs for the new console. The first official development kits are expected to go out by the end of this year. Furthermore, in regards to the PlayStation brand, Edge's report says that "one major Sony-owned studio has now ceased PlayStation 3 development" to work on software for the next console.
Recently, we had heard that some internal Sony studios had already started work on games for the PS4; this new piece of evidence appears to corroborate that rumor. And if all of this is accurate, you can expect 2012 to be a year where we start heavily talking about the next generation.
Get ready.

Elite Sign-Ups Exceed Even The "Most Optimistic Expectations"

The launch of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 has sent millions flocking to enjoy the benefits of online play.
And in order to make the most of your experience, you really need to sign up for Activision's new subscription service, Call of Duty Elite. Those who purchased the Hardened Edition of MW3 got a year's membership free, and many others are signing up.
The result? According to Beachhead Studio boss Chacko Sonny, registration requests are absolutely through the roof:
"We are proud to say that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 has launched and millions of people are already playing online. Registration requests for our new live service Call of Duty Elite are exceeding even our most optimistic expectations, which is creating a bottleneck and some players have not been able to register. We have already registered hundreds of thousands of players and we are working around the clock to increase our capacity as quickly as possible.”
Sonny added that your gameplay data is safe, and the team is "working around the clock to accommodate every player who wants to be part of Call of Duty Elite."  Remember, at its core, this is a free service; you only have to pay the $50 premium if you wish to have all the fringe benefits.  For those who love MW3 and the Call of Duty brand, it's definitely something worth looking into.
